Dwain Norman, of Montevideo, died on Monday, September 25, 2006 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 71.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. D.H. Baumgarn officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening with the family being present from 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Dwain Alvin Norman was born on February 9, 1935 in Chippewa County, MN to Floyd and Ella (Wohlschlager) Norman. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock. Dwain attended rural school in District 53 and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1953. He served in the US Army, serving in Korea. After he was discharged from the Army, he returned to the Montevideo area, where he worked for Fairway Construction for 12 years. In 1969 he joined with his father and brother Donald to form Norman Improvement. He sold the business in 1996 and retired shortly thereafter. On May 24, 1975 he was united in marriage to Bernice Peterman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They lived on the farm where he ran Norman Improvement Co. until moving into Montevideo in 2002. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was on the building committee and served in several leadership positions including Chief Executive Officer. Dwain was a member of the American Legion Post in Maynard, the VFW Post in Montevideo and the Watson Lions Club. He loved to dance, enjoyed old - time music, loved to tell stories about “work”, loved little children and his dogs and always enjoyed his work and business.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice; a step-daughter, Barbara Agre - Hanson and her husband Denny Hanson of East Grand Forks, MN; three grandchildren: Kyle Agre, Stacy Amundson and Kristen Beauchamp; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice Olson and her husband Wayne of Isle, MN; a brother, Lloyd Norman and his wife Carol of Montevideo, MN; a sister-in-law Bernice Moseng and her husband Gene of Montevideo, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Donald Norman.
