Earl Ostlie, of Montevideo, dies on Friday, January 4, 2013 at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Church in rural Watson with Rev. Larry Olson officiating.  Interment will be held in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 5 – 7 PM at the the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Earl Raymond Ostlie was born on August 12, 1922 in Montevideo to A.T. and Cora (Lund) Ostlie.  He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Watson.  He attended rural schools, graduated from Montevideo High School in 1941 and served in the US Navy during World War II.  On October 29, 1950 he was united in marriage to Lillian Tricker at the Clarkfield Methodist Church.  When Earl was younger he liked to play softball and played trumpet in several bands.  He loved to farm which he did forever in Chippewa County. Earl was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the church council for many years.  He was a member of American Legion Post #59 in Montevideo, the MN Valley Antique Farm Power & Machinery Association, had been a member of the Sons of Norway and served on both the Watson and Montevideo School Boards.  In his later years, Earl enjoyed tinkering with old Coop tractors, bowling, bike riding, hunting, fishing, traveling and camping in their motorhome, and keeping track of the stock and grain markets.  His passion for sports and music continued throughout his life as he followed many of his children’s/grandchildren’s sports (including summer softball, wrestling, track, cross country, swimming-just to name a few) and music events,  along with always watching any type of sport on TV. Family events were always important to him. He loved telling stories and a “good” joke.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; four children: Barbara (and Jerry) Popp of Willmar, MN; Donald (and Diane) Ostlie of Montevideo, Bruce (and Teresa) Ostlie and Jon (and Sharon) Ostlie of Watson; twelve grandchildren: Brooke (and Robert) Winberg, Cole Pritchard, Grant (and Jennifer) Popp, Kristy Popp, Mark Popp, Nathan Ostlie, Tracy Ostlie, Beth Ostlie, Stina Ostlie, Mason Ostlie, Brennon Johnson and Mike Molnar; two great grandchildren: Robbie Winberg and Miles Popp; a brother Clarence (and Evelyn) Ostlie of Montevideo; a sister, Sylvia Lee of Dawson, MN; a son-in-law, William Pritchard of Hibbing, MN as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Cynthia Pritchard; brothers Floyd and Roy Ostlie and by sisters Alice Ostlie and Doris Folkestad.
