Eddie Huseby, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 86.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating. Interment will be in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family from 4:30 - 7 Pm and with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Eddie Almer Huseby was born on September 22, 1917 in rural Milan, MN to Peter and Hannah (Johnson) Huseby. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Watson, attended Milan Schools and graduated from Milan High School in 1935. He served in the US Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific and receiving a Silver Star and 3 Purple Hearts. On April 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elmira Grages at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Appleton, MN. They lived in Milan from 1950 - 1956 and have lived in Montevideo since. He worked as a carpenter for Kleven Brothers Construction for several years and worked at Standard Lumber in Montevideo for many years before retiring in 1980. Following his retirement he did janitorial work at the VFW in Montevideo for many years. He was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and had served as a Deacon and Trustee, belonged to the VFW, American Legion, DAV and the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed camping, fishing, his Army Reunions, and baseball, especially Twins baseball games. He also managed the Milan and Madison Town Team Baseball teams in the early 1950's.
He is survived by his wife, Elmira; three children: Kathy Christenson and her husband Mark, Ron Huseby and his wife Linda of Montevideo, and Jon Huseby and his wife Debbie of Eagle Lake, MN; seven grandchildren: Angela (Christenson) Kranz, Adam Christenson, Ryan Huseby, Erin Huseby, Jared Huseby, Megan Huseby and Matthew Huseby; two great-grandchildren: Markus and Jenna Kranz; one sister, Phyllis Anderson of Dawson, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kenneth in 1972; one brother, Burnett Huseby; and five sisters: Ella Moen, Gladys Johnson, Leola Soliem, Florence Lundborg and Ruth Hjortaas.
