Edgar August Pitt was born May 22, 1933, at the Montevideo Hospital to Walter and Charlotte (Frank) Pitt. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Beginning at the age of 11, he spent his summers farming with his uncle, Walter Frank, on the home place. That brought so much joy to him. Later, that is where he raised his family. He attended Montevideo Public School and graduated in 1951. He married Arlene Christenson on November 24, 1955 at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. He worked as a butcher in Redwood Falls and Montevideo until he started farming in 1957. They lived in Havelock Township until moving to Montevideo in 1982. When they moved to Montevideo, he worked as a butcher at Hill Grocery and then Roger’s Jack & Jill in Clara City until he retired in 2000. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active on the Board of Elders for many years. He also helped with many youth activities in church and 4-H. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bird-watching, traveling and trips to the lake. Family was especially important to him.
