Edith Gehner, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 87.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 1:30 PM at the Maynard Lutheran Church with Rev. Mary Hovland officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Havelock.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-7:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home.
Edith Thresia (Knoshal) Gehner was born on November 25, 1916 in Grace Township of Chippewa County, MN to Joseph and Anna (Kemp) Knoshal. She moved to Havelock Township with her parents at the age of 1 ½. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock and attended school at District #51. Edith helped her folks on the farm shock grain, pick corn by hand, shuck corn fodder, helped stack hay and later did housework for different families. On December 16, 1942, she was united in marriage to Victor Gehner at Trinity Lutheran Church. They farmed in Havelock Township until 1968, when they moved to Maynard. They joined Maynard Lutheran Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid and Circle. She worked in the kitchen at the Maynard School and belonged to Homemakers, Garden Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, Whist Club and Monday Morning Coffee Club. Edith enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings whether they won or lost. She moved to Copper Glen in Montevideo in January of 2002.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law: Alice Knoshal of Montevideo, MN and Rosella Schroeder of Boulder, CO; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor in 2000; a son, Kenneth in 1995; three brothers: Frank, Alvin and Willie Knoshal; and one sister, Dorothy Janke.
