Edith Lea died Friday, March 16, 2007 at Homefront in Montevideo at the age of 93.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, MN. Rev. Tom Opoien will officiate and interment will be at Kviteseid Lutheran - Milan Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held on Monday from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.
Edith Geraldine (Steensland) Lea was born January 17, 1914 the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Retrum) Steensland in Hollandale, WI. When she was 5, her father brought her family, and possessions including cattle by train to a farm outside of Milan. She was confirmed in the Methodist Church and attended rural schools. On June 5, 1934, she was united in marriage with Halvor Lea. Milan was their home throughout their married life. Edith worked at the Carlson Doll Factory for a number of years. Halvor died in 1983. Edith continued to live in their home until 2004 when her health required her to move to Homefront II in Montevideo. She leaves behind a legacy of enjoying good humor in small things. Her philosophy was if life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
She is survived by six children: Marge Page and her husband Don of Winsted, MN, Paul Lea and his wife Jean of Derwood, MD, John Lea of Naples, FL, Jane Lund and her husband Mike of Jacobson, MN, Diane Berven and her husband Bob of Milan, MN, and Janis Wik and her husband Brad of Watson, MN; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Ruth Williamson of Osakis, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Halvor; one son, Dale Lea; three brothers: Ole, Lloyd, and Clifford Steensland; and one sister: Florence Arnold.
