Edna Halling, formerly of Milan, died on Monday, August 11, 2003 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson, MN at the age of 98.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 15, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Trevor Bailey officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening and with the family from 7 - 8 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Edna Gladys (Moen) Halling was born on August 28, 1904 at the home farm in Lac Qui Parle Co., MN to Martin & Alma (Lund) Moen. She was baptized at Borgund Lutheran Church and confirmed at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools and the Lutheran Normal School in Madison.. She worked for a time at the agricultural school in St. Paul and during the depression stayed at home working for farm families in the area. On June 28, 1934 she was united in marriage to Lawrence C. Halling in the evergreen grove of her farm home. They lived in Milan where Lawrence and his brother Reuben owned Halling Motor Co. She was an active member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and it’s Ladies Aid. For many years she headed the Red Cross Blood Drive for the Milan area. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and mother, and liked to sew, cook, bake, garden and doing many types of handwork. She enjoyed her sewing club and having friends over for Rook and coffee parties. After retirement they continued to enjoy their life in the Milan community and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Charles Halling and his wife Nancy of Northfield, MN; a daughter, Emilie Frantsen and her husband Kearney of Burnsville, MN; 3 grandchildren: Kristin Gee and her husband Gregory; Paul Frantsen and his wife Julie; and Phil Halling and his wife Adelia; 8 great grandchildren: Derek; Nathan, and Peter Gee, Rachel, Bethany and Sarah Frantsen and Kendra and Heather Halling; a sister, Mabel Femrite of Dawson, MN; a brother, Simon Moen and his wife Helen of Appleton, MN; a sister-in-law, Murial Moen of Madison, MN as well as by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence in 1994; a grandson, Daniel Halling; 2 brothers: Ingvald and Howard Moen; and 2 sisters: Signora Kleven and Sylvia Borstad.
