Edna Dahl Kvam

March 7, 1906 — April 3, 2000

Edna Dahl Kvam was born in Dawson, MN, on March 7, 1906, the fourth child of Lewis and Sarah (Borstad) Dahl.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Hauge Lutheran Church (now Grace Lutheran) in Dawson.  She attended school in Dawson and graduated in June, 1924.  In her high school days, she served as a waitress at Wogan and Stageberg's Ice Cream Parlor.  After high school, she worked at the K.K. Mahlum & Sons General Merchandise Store.
On January 11, 1930, Edna married Einer A. Kvam, who was employed by the Voll Sales Service in Minneapolis.  He conducted many store sales, discount sales, and foreclosures.  Edna traveled with her husband for four years, helping conduct the sales.  Edna enjoyed making "Hollywood" rugs and was employed by the New Art Rug Needle Company of Seattle, Washington.  She traveled many different places, demonstrating the New Art Rug Needle; among those places were County Fairs, Minnesota State Fair, Daytons and Donaldsons Dept. Stores, and many other stores in Minnesota.  Einer died on November 1, 1966.  Edna was a lifelong resident of Dawson until September of 1995.  To be closer to her children and grandchildren, she lived at Teachers' Residence in Minneapolis, an assisted living apartment, and after needing closer attention, moved to Redeemer Residence Nursing Home.  She remained there until her death on Monday, April 3, 2000, at the age of 94 years and 26 days.
She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Silver Thimble Club (a sewing club).  She was employed at the Northwest State Bank in Dawson for 16 years before her retirement in 1971.  After retirement, she enjoyed outdoor yardwork, flower gardening, taking a walk every day, spending time with friends and neighbors, and doing volunteer work visiting homebound people in the community.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Arlene (Sherwood) Brekke of Minneapolis and son, Lynn Kvam of St. Paul; 2 granddaughters: Susan (Andy) Castellano of Edina and Julie (Jeff) Walden of Minneapolis; 2 great-granddaughters: Ruby Claire Walden and newly adopoted baby girl Castellano from Korea; sister, Alpha Nolan of Dawson; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Einer; brothers: Clarence and Arthur Dahl; and sisters: Stella Hanson and Beatrice Rodeghier.
