Edythe Anderson of Montevideo died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Trinity Care Center in Farmington, MN at the age of 90. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Donald S. McKee will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Edythe Ruth (Gilbertson) Anderson was born June 15, 1918 at Benson, MN the daughter of Syvert and Clara Gilbertson. The Gilbertson family included nine children. Syvert built the house that their family lived in Benson. They did not have much in material things, but there was a lot of love. They had beautiful Christmases. The children did not get much in the line of gifts, but they could each have a whole apple instead of a quarter. Edythe's father Syvert and his brother Eddie bought land on lake Minnewaska in the 1920's. The Gilbertson family made many memories at the cottage having fun and laughing. She graduated from Benson High School in 1936 and worked as a telephone operator for the Benson Telephone Co. She was united in marriage with Arnold C. Anderson March 27, 1943 at Camp Lee, VA. They made their home in Montevideo where her husband worked in the family funeral home business. Edythe was an avid sports fan. She loved her Twins and Vikings. Frequently at family gatherings, times for dinner would be arranged around the games. Her hobbies included Bridge Club and crossword puzzles. She was active at Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she sang for years with the Ladies Choir and was a member of the Elizabeth Circle. Life was not easy after Arnie died January 26, 2006. Edythe was unable to live on her own and moved to Luther Haven Nursing Home. She missed him terribly. Even though her family made many trips to support her, she struggled. She eventually agreed to move to the Twin Cities to be closer to family. In November of 2007, she moved to an assisted living facility in Apple Valley, MN. Her family enjoyed her being closer and being able to spend time with her. In June of this year, Edythe celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends. She was happy to see everyone and enjoyed the day. The following day, unfortunately, she fell and broke her hip. She then moved to Trinity Care Center in Farmington, MN. Two years ago when Arnie had his heart attack, he lay in the hospital bed, fully aware he was dying as he hugged her at his bedside, he told her he would be waiting for her. They are together now, at peace. As Edythe told her family over and over again "Thanks a million! I couldn't do it without you." We celebrate their lives together. She is survived by her sons: David and his wife Vicki of Siren, WI and Mark and his wife Cheryl of Lakeville, MN; four grandchildren: Tom and his wife Jenny Anderson, Troy Anderson, and Kari and Eric Anderson; four great-grandchildren: Sveta, Trevor, Tiffany, and Tristan Anderson; one brother, Kelly (Doris) Gilberston of Florida; and two sisters: Elynor "Honey" (Lowell) Bagstad of Marshall, MN and Helen Scharlemann of Minneapolis, MN. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Arnold C. Anderson; three brothers; and three sisters.
