E. Gordon Folkestad

June 4, 1926 — February 3, 1994

E. Gordon Folkestad, 67, of Montevideo died February 3, 1994 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 7, at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Rev. Alvin G. Lewis, Jr. will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before services.

E. Gordon Folkestad was born June 4, 1926 in St. Paul, MN the son of John and Lillian (Rousu) Folkestad.  They lived in the Wadena area before moving to Montevideo in 1936.  Gordon graduated from Montevideo High School in 1944.  He served in the US Navy from June 7, 1944 until his discharge June 24, 1946.  During his time in the Navy he was a member of the unit that is now known as the Navy Seals.  Gordon was united in Marriage with Lorraine "Sandy" Sandbakken at Dawson, MN.  They made their home in Montevideo except for two years they spent in Tacoma, WA.  In 1952, Gordon became an officer on the Montevideo Police Dept.  In 1975 he was given the prestigious honor of attending the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. for three months and was an associate member at this time.  Gordon retired in 1982 after serving Montevideo as an officer for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine "Sandy" of Montevideo, MN; one son, David and his wife Luann of Montevideo, MN; one grandson, Gavin; his mother Lillian of Montevideo, MN; one brother, Raymond and his wife Adeline of Williston, ND; two sisters: Delores Fechter and her husband Kenneth of Salt Lake City, UT and Donna Rasmussen of Montevideo, MN; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends: Selby and Myrnetta Knudson of Montevideo, MN and Walter and LaVonne Sletten.

Preceding him in death was his father, John.
