Elaine Marcia Dahl was born on January 31, 1929 at Odessa Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Bertha (Sumner) Hinneberg as the eighth child of nine. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1947. Elaine was united in marriage to Sheldon Eugene Dahl on August 6, 1950. They moved onto a farm north of Dawson and continued farming up until their retirement. They were blessed with three sons: Dennis, Wayne, and David.
Elaine was a devoted and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always put her family first and had a gift for hospitality. Her coffee pot was always on and anyone who stopped by would be invited in for an old fashioned farm lunch, which most people would define as a meal! Their home was the center of family gatherings in which her loving touch made them so special.
Elaine enjoyed being on a Dawson bowling team in her younger years. She was active at her church, hosting Ladies Aide, Circle and Homemakers. She enjoyed clipping newspaper articles for all the grandchildren and journaling. She enjoyed attending all their games and activities and you could always hear her on the bleachers if there was a close call! She also enjoyed baking many of the Scandinavian treats like lefse, flatbread, krum kaka, doughnuts, potato klub, and sweet soup. She would spend many hours making pies and lefse with her family, including grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Elaine’s home was always well kept and yet she allowed grandkids to run loose! She had a green thumb for flowers and spent many happy hours outside around the yard.
Elaine and Gene loved to play cards with friends and family, never minding how late into the night it got. She enjoyed dancing and loved watching the Molly B show on RFD TV.
She is survived by her three sons: Dennis (Marilyn) Dahl, Wayne (Laura) Dahl and David (Amy) Dahl all of Dawson; eleven grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren: Brian (Tami) Dahl, Katline, Trista, Tatum: Brandon (McKenzie) Dahl, Sawyer, Silas: Brent (Heather) Dahl, Addyson, Aedyn, Asher: Tanya (Kyle) Allen, Tera Dahl, Terese (Nate) Viessman, Skylar, Walker, Tucker, Summer and Tymber: Jarrett Dahl, Elouise: Jordan (Ashley) Dahl, Lincoln, McKinley, Cleveland, Truman, Hayes, and Monroe: Kollin (Kelly) Dahl, Aspen: Karoline Dahl and Kate Dahl.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gene Dahl; a great-grandson, Porter Dahl; parents, William and Bertha Hinneberg; her siblings: Clarence (Marie) Hinneberg, Inez (Emil) Meister, Thelma (Leroy) Hanson, Bernard (Lucille) Hinneberg, Jonetta (Lester) Kelly, Elmyra (Vern) Kittleson, Florence (Clarence) Hillman and Loren (Constance) Hinneberg; brother-in-law, Alton Dahl; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was a precious woman of God with a servant’s heart and will be missed by all. Blessed be her memory.
