Eldon Evjen, formerly of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 80.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 1:30 PM at Bergen Lutheran Church with Rev. Julie Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening,with the family from 6 - 8 PM and a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Eldon B.Evjen was born on December 14, 1920 in Benson, MN to Oscar and Clara (Morstad) Evjen. He was confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church, graduated from Milan High School in 1938 and attended the University of Minnesota for one year. On November 15, 1942 he was united in marriage to Marlys Gilsrud at her family farm He served in the US Army during WWII, serving in European Theatre. He returned to Montevideo and farmed until moving to Wood Lake, MN in 1956 and began working for Farmers Union Central Exchange in Cottonwood. In 1961 he moved to So. St. Paul and worked for Soil Service centers, traveling a 5 state area. In 1972 he moved to Wadena to manage a multiple facet Cenex operation. In 1981 he returned to the Montevideo area and farmed his home farm until retiring. In 1995 he moved to Osakis, MN. He was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church and the VFW Post s in Osakis, Montevideo and Wadena, where he had been a Post Commander. He was a member of the Antique Power Association in Montevideo and had been President of the group. He especially enjoyed fishing and antique cars, including his 1926 Model T Ford and 1930 Model A Ford.
He is survived by his wife Marlys of Osakis, MN; two daughters: Sandra Jacobsen and her husband Jake of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Renay Gerdes of Shoreview, MN; two sons: Bruce Evjen and his wife Mary of Alexandria, MN and Neil Evjen of Eagan, MN; seven grandchildren: Kristen Jacobsen, Kimberly Paitel, Kari Evjen, Angela Evjen, Nathan Gerdes, Benjamin Evjen and Rebecca Evjen; three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Allyson and Madeline Paitel; one brother, Ronald Evjen and his wife Charlene of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters: Adlene Gibson of Redmond, WA and LaVonne Daugherty and her husband Eldon of Renville, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
