Eleanor Molde, of Montevideo, died on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 95. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Jay Grave officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Eleanor Oselia (Heieren) Molde was born on May 20, 1915 to Christ and Bertha (Agre) Heieren on the farm in Lac qui Parle County, MN homesteaded by her great grandmother. She was baptized in 1915 and confirmed in 1929 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter, attended rural schools and graduated from Lutheran Normal School in Madison, where she was the "jumping center" on the girls basketball team. She graduated from Calhoun Secretarial School in Minneapolis in 1933. On November 28, 1937 she was united in marriage to Adolph Molde at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter. They farmed for 53 years near Big Bend City on a farm that has been in the Molde family since 1903. They raised three children. She worked as a bookkeeper and spent many years working as office manager at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital. Retirement years were spent wintering in Seguin, TX, near her daughter Betty and her family. They kept a full time residence there for several years with Adolph's declining health and death. Eleanor moved back to Montevideo to live at Brookside Manor in 2001. She became a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home earlier this fall. She was active as a 4-H leader, in the West Bank Homemakers Club and active in the ladies organizations of Big Bend Lutheran Church. Eleanor had a special place in her heart for Lutheran Global Missions and was active in Women's Missionary Federation. For her many volunteer pursuits, she received the WCCO "good neighbor" award.. She learned to play bridge in her 70's and was always ready to play a game of Buck with friends and family. She didn't miss a Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves or Spurs game on television. She is survived by three children: Ronald (and Joann) Molde of Montevideo, Betty (and Thomas) Wilkens of Georgetown, TX and Kent (and Julie) Molde of Eden Prairie, MN; seven grandchildren: Steve (and Sheila) Molde, Brian Molde, Nathan (and Darci) Molde, Kim Wilkens and Tom Herrick, Nick (and Ashley) Wilkens, Ryan Molde and Britt Molde; seven great-grandchildren: Joseph, Adam, Christopher, Cali, Alexander, Abbey and Jude. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph in 1997; a daughter, Marcia in infancy; a brother, Chester Heieren and his wife Inez; and a sister, Ancile Thompson and her husband Leonard.
