Elenora (Thompson) Jorgenson was born on December 28, 1917 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, MN to Ole and Johannah (Aarseth) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Big Bend Lutheran Church. She grew up in a wonderfully close knit family in the Big Bend community and attended “a little country” school. She was united in marriage to Leonard Jorgenson on April 20, 1935 at the Big Bend Parsonage. Early in their marriage she and Leonard farmed in Big Bend Township. She was very supportive in establishing the Jorgenson Well Drilling business in the early 1950’s. They began a new home in Montevideo in 1956 until they purchased a hobby farm where she enjoyed gardening and the freedom of country living. She and Leonard returned to Montevideo “city living” where she lived until moving to Boulder Estates in Marshall, MN in June, 2003.
She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, various church circles and homemakers groups. She was a fantastic homemaker. The cookie jar was always full and the coffee pot was on! Doughnuts, pancakes made from scratch, apple pie, apple bars and homemade buns are memories of all. She loved listening to music each day, quilting with her sisters and sisters-in-law, or sitting on the deck at the lake simply watching the view. Hundreds of little dolls, picked up during garage sale ventures, found a new home with Elenora who would then clean them all up and sew them a new outfit. She called them her little “orphans”! She was caring, empathetic, and respectful to others. Her advice, but given mostly when asked, was looked highly upon. Her faith in God was very important to her. She enjoyed many travels from camping outings to Amtrak trips and jet rides – all with people she loved. But most important was creating memories and celebrating moments with family and friends.
To those she leaves behind, we will remember her as being an amazing wife, mom, grandma and homemaker, the most important role she felt a woman could fill. Her life is truly a “celebration of life”.
She is survived by two children: Valgene and wife Sandy of Montevideo, MN, Janet Olson of Marshall, MN, and daughter-in-law, Joanne of Montevideo, MN; nine grandchildren: Brian (Rita) Jorgenson, Colin (Lori) Jorgenson, Jody (Scott) Sachariason, Rick (Kim) Olson, Kristi (Ed) Olson-Raff, Amy (Paul) Ingebrigtson, Steven (Andrea) Jorgenson, John (Deb) Jorgenson and Stacy (John) Keller; 20 great-grandchildren: Mathea, Thayne, Cedar, Skylynn, Thor, Sydni, Sam, Gavin, Nic, Tyler, Aiden, Nicole, Bekki, Sarah, Aeron, Aira, Spencer, Paige, Joshua and Patric; 2 great-great-grandchildren: MacKenzie and Savannah; a brother, Arnold Thompson of Litchfield, MN; one sister, Mildred Blom of Louisville, KY; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceeding her in death were her husband, Leonard, her son, Larry, her parents; three brothers: Rudolph, Thorfin and Henry; and two sisters, Ruby Torgerson and Judell Kolstad.
