Elizabeth "Betty" Weckwerth

Betty Weckwerth, of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 85. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Sparta Township with Rev. Ronald Hobbie officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family present from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Elizabeth Jane White was born on May 14, 1926 in Faribault, MN to Howard and Esther (Hanks) White. She was baptized in Faribault and later confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church. She attended schools in Faribault and graduated from Faribault High School in 1944. She attended Mankato State Teachers College, where she obtained her teacher certification. She taught in Echo, MN and Richfield, MN before moving to Montevideo. On June 18, 1949 she was united in marriage to Elwood Weckwerth in Faribault. They made their home in rural Montevideo. She taught in a number of rural schools before joining the Montevideo School sysntem, where she taught until retiring in 1996. She was a long-time member of St. Johns Lutheran where she was involved in Ladies Aid, LWML, Bible Study Group, was a Sunday School teacher and a Vacation Bible School teacher. She was involved with the Chippewa Co. Historical Society, Hospital Auxiliary, Luther Haven Board and was a member of the Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She enjoyed her sewing and book clubs, cooking, community volunteering and traveling. She is survived by her husband, Elwood; children: Larry Weckwerth of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Scott (and Phyllis) Weckwerth of Montevideo and Julie (and Robert) Scott of Fargo, ND; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters; Audrey Nyman of Faribault, MN and Janet Braun of So. St. Paul, MN, as well as by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
