Ellen "Babe" Buhr

Ellen "Babe" Buhr of Dawson died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 81. Memorial service was on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with Pastor Erik Carlson officiating; scripture lessons were Psalm 23, Lamentations 3:22-26, 31-33 and Matthew 11:25-30; and "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" were played for vocal special music. Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery. Ellen (Oman) Buhr was born February 17, 1930, at Dawson, MN, the daughter of Casper "Hans" and Ella (Storlien) Oman. She was baptized at Madison Lutheran Church and attended school in Dawson. She started to work at a young age in various restaurants. Babe was united in marriage with Art Maus in 1949, and they had five children. They later were divorced and she married Wallace Buhr on March 31, 1990, in Brookings, SD. She loved country living and enjoyed knitting, canning, playing cards, and bowling. She played accordion quite often and even played during parades. Babe had a special love for her family and also for her dogs and cats. Family was very important to her. She is survived by her husband, Wallace; five children: Ron (Barb) Maus of Frenchtown, MT, Barb (Daryl) Skindelien of Lake Benton, MN, David Maus of Wheaton, MN, Steve (Denise) Maus of Howard Lake, MN, and Jerry (Lana) Maus of Canby, MN; 7 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great-grandchild; two brothers: Kenneth Oman of Albert Lee, MN, and Melvin Oman of Madison, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; 7 brothers: Lester, Harold, Engvold "Billie", Marvin, Dewey, Herb, and Birdeen; and 3 sisters: Erma Nelson, Margaret "Tootsie" Nelson, and Charlotte "Dolly" Krugerud. Blessed be her memory. She was a good mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.
