Elma Engel, 91, of Montevideo, died Sunday, September 8, 2002 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Michael Briggs will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Elma Emilia (Meyen) Engel was born June 17, 1911 in Florida Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN the daughter of John and Emma (Berndt) Meyen. She attended rural schools and grew to adulthood there. Elma was united in marriage with August Engel November 2, 1932 at Canby, MN. They made their home at Canby before moving to Montevideo. She worked at Stamson’s Café for a number of years and at Ben Franklin for 20 years before retiring. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and needlework. Elma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a circle and Trinity Women.
She is survived by two sons: Eldred Engel of St. Peter, MN and Norman Engel and his wife Andrea of St. Paul, MN; two grandchildren: Andrew Engel of Towson, MD and Sarah Engel of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Marvin Meyen of Gary, SD; one sister, Jane Reinertson of Hendricks, MN; and special friends, Bev and Jim Berven of Montevideo, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, August Engel, August 6, 1980; one granddaughter, Nora Engel; two brothers: John Meyen and Fred Meyen; and one sister, Lorena Hacker.
