Elmer Ward, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, MN at the age of 78 . Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevido with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Elmer Calvin Ward, Jr. was born on October 11, 1929 in Montevideo, MN the son of Elmer and Julia (Johnson) Ward. He attended Montevideo High School. Elmer served in the US Army from 1947-48 and the US Air Force from 1949-1969. On March 30, 1955 he was united in marriage to Carole Mead in Watertown, SD. They lived in Plattsmouth, NE, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Merced, CA, before returning to Montevideo in 1969. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching TV. He is survived by his wife, Carole; three sons: Larry Ward of Montevideo, MN, James (and Doris) of Maple Grove, MN, and William (and Julie) of Virginia Beach, VA; three daughters: Julia Eckhoff of Maple Plain, MN Cathy (and Scott) Olson of Battle Lake, MN, and Shelley (and Terry) Hubble of Montevideo, MN; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Ward of Montevideo, MN; one brother, Charles (and Mary) Ward of Osakis, MN; two sisters: Joan (and John) Swanson of Esterville, IA , Peggy (and James) Haugen of Milan, MN and a brother-in-law, James Billings of Montevideo, MN; thirteen grandchildren: Kendra, Travis, and Dustin Ward, Melissa and Matthew Ward, Zachary, Jesse, Aaron, and Lauren Eckhoff, Marcus and Lily Ward, and Tasha and Heather Olson; two great-grandchildren: Nicole and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Dennis; one grandson, Nicholas Ward; two brothers: Bruce and Frank; a sister, Jean Billings and a nephew Dale Ward.
