Elsie Husby died on Saturday, November 13, 1999, at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 98.
Funeral services Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Elsie Louise (Hagen) Husby was born on September 2, 1901, in Leenthrop Township of Chippewa County, MN, to Einar and Gjertina (Bavry) Hagen. She attended Montevideo Schools and was graduated from Montevideo High School in 1919. She was employed by two of the banks in Montevideo before being united in marriage to Olaf Husby on June 8, 1925. They lived in Minneapolis until early 1931 when they moved to Chippewa County and operated two farms. In May of 1933 they moved to Wegdahl and in July of 1933 their home burned to the ground, forcing them to move to Montevideo and start over. After raising her family, she worked as a teletype operator for Sears-Roebuck Co. for several years before retiring in 1966. She was a very active and long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. For over 50 years she was active in the VFW Auxiliary and served as their pianist for over 30 years. For the last 10 years she resided at the Luther Haven Nursing Home.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Husby and his wife Beverly (Tilbury) of Madison, MN, and Richard Husby and his wife Patricia (Cummings) of Sandwich, IL; one daughter-in-law, Joanne (Neil) Husby of Richfield; grandsons, Steven, Alan, Richard and Donald Husby; granddaughters, Karen Coupland and Dianne Husby; two great-grandsons, Daniel and Benjamin Coupland; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olaf in 1978; a son, David Husby; six brothers, Oscar, Louis Georg, Elmer, James, Louis and Arvid Hagen; and four sisters, Edna Hagen, Nora Strand, Gunda Hagen and Evelyn Strand.
