Elsie Ketelsen, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 93. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 29, 2007 at 1:30 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. David Baumgarn officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 6-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Elsie Anna (Schoening) Ketelsen was born on May 27, 1914 in Chippewa Co., MN, the youngest child of Emil and Anna (Spletter) Schoening. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She attended Montevideo Public Schools and graduated from Montevideo High School. On May 15, 1936 she was united in marriage to George Ketelsen in Watertown, SD. They farmed in the Montevideo area for all their married life. Elsie Moved into Montevideo about 6 years ago and was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home. She was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed music, flower gardening, traveling, helping others and especially her family.
She is survived by four children: Joann Holte of Cornelius, OR; Phyllis (and James) Van Binsbergen of Montevideo; Robert Ketelsen of Fresno, CA and Joyce (and Karl) Meier of Redding, CA; 9 grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George in 1983; a son, Donald Ketelsen, a grandson, Donald Van Binsbergen, and 3 sisters: Alvina Schoening, Lilly Strommer and Mary Schoening.
