Elsie Roder, of Montevideo, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her home in Montevideo at the age of 92.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Pastor Donald S. McKee officiating.  Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.  A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM.

Elsie Hjordis (Paulson) Roder was born in Montevideo on January 17, 1923 to Martin and Helga (Nokleby) Paulson.  She was baptized on May 20, 1923 and confirmed on April 20, 1937 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  She graduated from Montevideo High School and continued her education at Northern State Teacher’s College in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  Following graduation from college, she moved back to Montevideo to teach in a one-room schoolhouse north of Montevideo.

Elsie married Arthur Roder in South Dakota in April of 1947.  Elsie and Art had four children, Franklin, James, Elaine and John.   Besides being a full time homemaker,  Elsie and Arthur owned and operated together the Westside Grocery Store in Montevideo for 50 years.    Elsie was also very active at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and had served as a funeral hostess for a number of years.  She was also active in the VFW  and American Legion Auxiliary.  Family was very important to Elsie and she cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Elsie especially enjoyed making sure that birthday celebrations in the family were a special time for those celebrating.   She enjoyed cooking, visiting friends, and having fun with family and friends.

Elsie is survived by her children, Franklin (Barbara) Roder and James Roder of Montevideo, Elaine Roder (Michael Marth) of Eden Prairie, MN and John Roder of Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren: Michelle (Zach Weckwerth)  Meyer of Montevideo, Melissa Roder of Fargo, ND, Ashley (Quinton) Leibl of Montevideo, and Ben (Tanya) Hendrickson of Plymouth, MN; four great-grandchildren: Santana Roder, Kasidy Weckwerth, Kambryn Hendrickson and Gabriella Hendrickson.

Elsie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur in 2009; a grandchild, Noel Mitteness; her brother, Paul Paulson, her sister,  Margaret Wilson; and a daughter-in- law, Julie Roder.
