Elsie Irene (Clausen) Sandbakken

Elsie Sandbakken died December 13, 1999 at her son, LeRoy Sandbakken’s home in Circle Pines, MN at the age of 91.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 17, 1999 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN.  Rev. Glenda Wilson  officiated and interment was at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens, rural Montevideo.

Elsie Irene (Clausen) Sandbakken was born September 11, 1908 in Lac Qui Parle County, MN the daughter of Andrew and Eliza (Sear) Clausen.  She was baptized at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Maxwell Township, confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd and graduated from Dawson High School in 1927.  Elsie attended teachers training in St. Cloud.  She was united in marriage with Alfred Sandbakken July 3, 1932 at the parsonage in Boyd.  They lived in Maxwell Township, Lac Qui Parle County.  Elsie worked for Swift Co. in Monte and Marshall for a short time.  She moved to Parkview Towers in Montevideo in 1993 and to Circle Pines, MN in 1997.

She is survived by eight children: Pearl Knop and her husband Jerry of Annandale, MN, Marlene Peterson and her husband Richard of Lake Lillian, MN, LeRoy Sandbakken and his wife Darlene of Circle Pines, MN, Glen Sandbakken and his wife Jane Ann of Peru, IN, June Bengtson and her husband Wallace of Braham, MN, Russell Sandbakken and his wife Marvel of Osakis, MN, Lynn Lanes and her husband Dean of St. Cloud, MN and Leslie Sandbakken and his wife Nancy of Randall, MN; 34 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one daughter-in-law, Carol Sandbakken of Montevideo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alfred in 1991; one son, Melvin in 1992; one granddaughter, Beverly Sweep; one brother, George Clausen; one sister, Cora Evenson; four half-brothers; and two half-sisters.
