Elsie U. Mills (Sunderland) was born on February 26, 1908 in Havelock Township of Chippewa Co., Minnesota to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Herm) Mills. She grew up in Chippewa Co. and attended Montevideo schools. On February 26, 1928 she was united in marriage to Harry L. Sunderland. They lived and farmed in Havelock Township until retiring and moving into Montevideo. In 1982 she moved to Hutchinson, Mn. and in 1990 became a resident of the Clara City Nursing Home in Clara City,Mn. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montevideo and loved to garden and cook.
Elsie died on January 28, 1994 at the Chippewa Co-Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, Mn. at the age of 85. She is survived by sons - Dale of Montevideo and Kenneth (Sandra) of Buffalo, MN.; by daughters - Thelma (Bill) McGuigan of St. Paul,Mn.; Ardis (Elmer) Maus and Jean Hanson of Hutchinson,Mn.; Janice (Dalen) Caspers of Clara City, Mn.; and June (Robert) Kurtzbein of Montevideo; 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; by a sister - Frances Kirchhof of Humboldt,Mn.; by sisters-in-law - Florence Mills,Ferne Mills, and Gladys Maus of Montevideo; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Harry in 1978, by a grandson - Todd Caspers; by a daughter-in-law - Kathy Sunderland; by sisters - Laura Kindelspire and LaVerna Mills; and by brothers - Lee Mills, Wesley Mills, Maurice Mills, Merritt Mills, and Marion Mills.
Funeral Services - Tuesday Feb. 1 1:30 P.M. United Methodist Church in Montevideo, Mn. with Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 8:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. There will be no reviewal at the church.
