Elwood "Slim" Weckwerth

March 30, 1928 — July 29, 2011

Elwood "Slim" Weckwerth, of rural Montevideo, died on Friday, July 29, 2011 at his home at the age of 83. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sparta Township with Rev. Ronald Hobbie officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family present from 6 - 8 P. M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Elwood Emil Weckwerth was born on March 30, 1928 in Chippewa Co., MN to Emil and Clara (Tesch) Weckwerth. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sparta Township, attended rural school in District 7 and graduated from Montevideo High School. On June 18, 1949 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth White in Faribault, MN. They made their home in rural Montevideo, where he spent his lifetime farming. He also operated the Chippewa Bowhunters Supply for over fifty years. He was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served in a number of capacities including Chairman and Elder. He served for many years as treasurer of the Leenthrop Insurance Co., was a member of the Chippewa County Fair Board, FMHA Board, Chippewa County Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission, Hawk Creek Archery Club, Montevideo Archery Club and was very active in the community. He enjoyed aviation, archery, reading and learning about the Civil War. He is survived by his children: Larry Weckwerth of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Scott (and Phyllis) Weckwerth of Montevideo and Julie (and Robert) Scott of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters: Frances Sampson of Minneapolis, MN and Jeanette Johnson of Akeley, MN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty in May of 2011, and a grandson, Samuel Scott in June of 2011.
