Emma Zempel, of Montevideo, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at her home in rural Montevideo at the age of 90. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 26, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Saron Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo. Rev. Lori Wold will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Emma Sophia (Goulson) Zempel was born February 13, 1920 in Mandt Township, Chippewa County, MN the daughter of Theodore Gustav and Caroline (Myhre) Goulson. She was baptized and later confirmed in 1934 at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. Emma attended rural school in Mandt Township. She was united in marriage with Harold Zempel November 12, 1943 at her parents home. They made their home on Harold's parents farm where they farmed. Harold died November 12, 1970 and she continued to live on the farm. She is survived by three children: Elden (Solveig) Zempel of Northfield, MN, Arnold Zempel of Montevideo, MN and Carolyn Zempel of Montevideo, MN; three grandchildren: Liv Zempel, Synneva Zempel, and Torfinn (Samantha) Zempel; a sister, Gladys Zempel of Montevideo, MN; a brother, Helge (Alice) Goulson of St. Cloud, MN; a sister-in-law, Bernice Goulson of Montevideo, MN; a brother-in-law, Erling Albin of Indianapolis, IN (formerly of Hanley Falls, MN); and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold; two sons: Dennis and Merlin; two sisters: Helen Iverson and Pearl Albin; and two brothers: Bernt and Melvin Goulson.
