Emmett Thorsland, 76, of Big Bend, MN died August 20, 1998 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 24, 1998 at 11:00 A.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Corey P. Fuhrman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. There will also be visitation at the church for 1 hour before services on Monday.
Emmett Lee Thorsland was born December 28, 1921 in Big Bend, MN the son of Henry and May (Tibbits) Thorsland. He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church. Emmett attended country school and graduated from Appleton High School in 1939. He served in the US Army during WW II. On June 23, 1948, Emmett was united in marriage with Madeline E. Kellner at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, MN. He was a farmer, professional painter, and store owner prior to his 25 year career as an elevator manager at Cargill in Big Bend. Emmett enjoyed being outside working on the yard and doing small woodworking projects. He loved to watch his grandchildren play outside. Emmett was a member of the Milan American Legion Post #359, the Montevideo VFW Post #380, and Big Bend Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Madge; four daughters: Connie Thorsland and her husband Ron Hinnenkamp of Little Falls, MN, Dar Ascheman and her husband Dan of Benson, MN, Char Klucas and her husband Bill of Danvers, MN and Joy Steffel and her husband Tom of Olivia, MN; twelve grandchildren: Emmett and Amanda Klucas, Elizabeth, Jamie, Nicole, and Lacey Ascheman, Marisa and Brendan Hinnenkamp, and Julie, Sarah, Brandon, and Morgan Steffel; one great-grandson, Jordan Ascheman; one brother Kermit Thorsland and his wife Ruth of Milan, MN; two sisters: Lila Schirmer of Benson, MN and Sidonia Lynne and her husband Joe of Montevideo, MN; one sister-in-law, Mary Thorsland of Stanwood, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Raymond Thorsland; and one brother-in-law, Harold Schirmer.
May loving memories of Emmett live among us forever.
