Emory Hokuf, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 1:30 pm at the Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo with Pastor Paul Losik officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Emory Edwin Hokuf was born on January 9, 1909 in Iowa to Frank and Libbie (Zobach) Hokuf. He lived on a farm near Melvin, IA and at age 6 moved to the Montevideo, MN area. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1927. On January 20, 1940 he was united in marriage to Mathilda “Tillie” Dahl in Granite Falls Township of Chippewa County. He farmed in Lisbon Township of Yellow Medicine County until retiring and moving into Montevideo in 1972. He lived for a short time on a farm near Pinewood, MN before moving back to Montevideo. He lived for a time at Brookside Manor in Montevideo and has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since 2002. He was a long-time member and active in the leadership of Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo and enjoyed bee-keeping, travel to National Parks, history, the Flintstones, fishing and had been a 4 H supporter.
He is survived by a daughter, Marie Bernal and her husband Gustavo of Lakeville, MN; a son, Paul Hokuf and his wife Sharon of Pinewood, MN; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Helen Sletten of San Luis Obispo, CA; as well as by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tillie in 1996; a son, John Hokuf in 1966; a brother, Wilburn Hokuf; and by a sister, Iolean Vandenhoff.
