Ernest Allen Streed was born on February 10, 1922, in Big Bend Township to Eric and Argina (Snelling) Streed. He was baptized at the Big Bend parsonage on March 26, 1922 and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. He graduated from Milan High School in 1940. He met Arlene Olson at the local Saturday dance at the Eagle Hall in Montevideo. They were married at Big Bend Lutheran Church on September 21, 1946. They moved to the home farm in West Bank Township in 1952, where they stayed for over 60 years, raising their family of 8 children. He was a lifelong farmer until 1986, and after he retired, he continued to work at seasonal jobs until the age of 90. He was proud of his eight children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ernie and Arlene were always on the go (even in blizzards). Ernie loved to share stories and play games, and give the grandchildren driving lessons as soon as they could (almost) see over the steering wheel.
He is survived by six children: Michael Streed of Milan, Dale (Janet) Streed of Columbia Heights, daughter-in-law Naomi Streed of Milan, daughter-in-law Sue Streed of Milan, Emily Rodeberg of Montevideo, Kevin (Lori) Streed of Burnsville, Doug (Ann) Streed of Morris and Tim Streed of Willmar; 18 grandchildren: Shawn Streed, Brent Streed, Nathan Streed, Ryan Streed, Todd Koosman, Benjamin (Jessica) Streed, Thomas (Mitchell) McGrath-Streed, Jeremy (Amy) Streed, Jesse (Dana) Streed, Brian Hislop, Aaron (Jo) Hislop, Trent Rodeberg, Jonathan Streed, Megan Streed, Danielle Streed, Jacob Hughes, Jonathan (Toni) Hughes, and Mitchell Hughes; 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters-in-law: Beatrice Olson and Fern Streed; brother-in-law, Ralph Haugen; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Arlene in 2011; two sons: Darrell and Gregory; son-in-law, Lee Rodeberg; daughter-in-law, Mary Streed; great-granddaughter, Amelia Hughes; two sisters: Florence Streed and Hazel Haugen; a brother, Raymond Streed; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
