Ervin Hildahl of rural Granite Falls, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 95. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield with Rev. Steve Weston officiating. Interment will be in the Bergen Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Care Center. Ervin Reuben Hildahl was born March 29, 1915 on the family farm in Stony Run Township to Pedar and Oleanna (Laudmansgaard) Hildahl. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wegdahl. Ervin attended a rural school in the Stony Run Township School District. Ervin proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1942 - 1945 and saw action overseas in the China-Burma-India Theater. Upon his honorable discharge, Ervin returned home to the family farm and attended West Central School of Agriculture, presently University of Minnesota, Morris, graduating top in his class. He married Mildred Overland on June 21, 1947 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They farmed in Stony Run Township and continued living on their farm after retiring in 1980. They moved to the Clarkfield Care Center in December of 2008. During retirement Ervin and Mildred enjoyed trips to Arizona, California, Oregon, Florida, Washington D.C., and New York City. Ervin was a very successful farmer as he had a passion for agriculture. He valued being a good steward of the land. Ervin was also dedicated to helping his neighbors. He was an active member of Bergen Lutheran Church where he was a trustee along with serving in other duties. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred, and his daughter Marlys Hays and her husband Gary of Scottsdale, AZ and sister Ruby Cornelius of rural Montevideo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Glenn, Leonard, and Selmer.
