Erwin Carl Garbe

Erwin Garbe, 97, of Montevideo, died October 9, 2001 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 12, 2001 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Johns Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo.  Rev . Ronald Hobbie  officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Erwin Carl Garbe was born October 10, 1903 at Mandt Township, Chippewa County, MN the son of Christian and Emilie (Pitt) Garbe.  He was baptized at his home November 1, 1903, was confirmed at Havelock April 1, 1917, and attended rural schools.  Erwin was united in marriage with Marie Lorenz February 2, 1936.  They farmed near Montevideo until moving into town in 1983.  He had been a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home since November of 1999.  He enjoyed farming and was active in church where he served as Elder and held various offices.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; four sons: Marvin Garbe and his wife Loretta of Montevideo, MN, Vernon Garbe and his wife Ann of Marshall, MN, Harlan Garbe and his wife Patty of Montevideo, MN, and Rolynn Garbe and his wife Rachel of Montevideo, MN; eight grandchildren: Debra (Steve) Hubbard, Melissa (George) Meisch, Stephen Garbe, Lisa Garbe, Sara Garbe, Ruth Garbe, Marie (Dan) Schnabel, and Christian (Iliana) Garbe; eight great-grandchildren: Jordan and Hailey Hubbard; Brielle Meisch; Dominick and Ethan Garbe; and Abigail, Zachariah and Elizabeth Schnabel; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Fred Garbe; and two sisters: Marie Garbe and Alma Lietz Haugen.
