Esther (Meyer) Gallagher

March 1, 1904 — December 16, 1995

Esther Gallagher, formerly of Montevideo died on Saturday December 16, 1995 at Parkview Court in Glenwood, MN. at the age of 91.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday December 20 at 1:30 PM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Robert Ford officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation with no reviewal will be Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Esther Meyer Gallagher was born on March 1, 1904 in Parkers Prairie, MN to Charles and Laura (Trachte) Meyer.  She moved with her family to Detroit Lakes, MN as a sophomore in high school and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School.  She attended Normal Training in Detroit Lakes and taught school for a year in Halma, MN.  She attended Moorhead State Teachers College and earned a teaching certificate in 1926.  She taught school in Warren, MN before moving to Montevideo in 1928 to teach in the junior high school.  In December of 1933 she was united in marriage to Royal Gallagher.  She lived in the Montevideo area until moving to Glenwood, MN in December of 1994 because of failing health.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montevideo and was active in the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by three daughters: Sharyn Goo of Winona, MN, Grace Sowle and her husband Cliff of Cannon Beach, OR, and Cathie Lillemoe and her husband Raleigh of Alexandria, MN;  one son, Jack Gallagher and his wife Patsy of Tulsa, OK; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Royal in 1962; two sisters: Lillian McFarren and Eleanor Peterson; and one brother, Wes Meyer.

Esther will be remembered for her cheerful smile and sense of humor.  She was known for her pies and her skill at completing crossword puzzles, and enjoyed traveling and playing bridge.  She particularly enjoyed her grandchildren and took pride in their accomplishments.
