Esther (Olson) Haugen

April 2, 1901 — September 22, 1995

Esther Haugen, of Montevideo, died on Friday September 22, 1995 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 94.  Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday September 26, 1995 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Norman Aronson officiating.  Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation was Monday afternoon and evening and with the family from 7 - 8 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Esther (Olson) Haugen was born on April 2, 1901 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Johannes and Mathia Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Watson and attended rural schools.  On September 8, 1923 she was united in marriage to Halvor Haugen in Watson,MN.  They farmed until the fall of 1948 when Halvor engaged in trucking and Esther worked at the Farmer's COOP Creamery candling eggs.  In 1952 they moved to Seattle,WA.  In 1956 they moved back to Montevideo where they operated restaurants in Montevideo, Clarkfield, and Windom,MN, until moving back to Montevideo in retirement.  Esther moved to Parkview Towers in Montevideo in June of 1989, became a resident of the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson in January of 1993 after breaking her hip, and became a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo in April of 1993.  She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Esther is survived by  her children - Owen Haugen and his wife Pat of Union,WA; Jean Appleseth and her husband Walter of Seattle,WA; Jeanette Iverson  of Seattle,WA; and Beverly Folkestad and her husband Dewey of Bloomington,MN; 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Halvor in 1964; by a grandson - Robert Haugen; by a son-in-law - Mayo Iverson; by sisters - Clara Arneson and Hilda Olson; by brothers - Elmer, Manley and Nordan Olson; by step-sisters - Minnie Thomton and Josephine Thomton;  and by step-brothers - Isaac and Louis Olson .
