Esther Adella (Erickson) Remund

Esther Remund, of Edina, died on Friday, April 13, 2001 at the Edina Health Care Center at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Michael Briggs officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church.

Esther Adella (Erickson) Remund was born on August 26, 1915 in Montevideo, MN to Rudy and Sanna (Hendrickson) Erickson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1934.  On November 25, 1943 she was united in marriage to R. B. “Pete” Remund in Montevideo.  They lived for a short time in Seattle, WA during WW II before moving to Wilmot, SD.  After their daughter Mary was born n 1948, they briefly tried their fortunes in California before returning to Minnesota. Pete’s work with the Red Own and then the Nash Finch grocery companies took them to New Ulm, Arlington and Pipestone, Mn areas and for a period in Fargo, ND.  Esther was a full-time mother and homemaker during these years..  In 1959 they moved to Excelsior, MN, living there until 1971.  After retirement, they lived in Milbank, SD and maintained a lake cottage at Hartford Beach on Big Stone Lake.  They later lived for a time in Hutchinson, MN before moving to Vernon Terrace in Edina to be closer to Mary’s family.  She has lived in Edina for the past six years and has been a resident of the Edina Care Center for the past fifteen months.    Esther was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend.  Her gentle laugh, great sense of humor, kindness and loving heart will be deeply missed.  She especially enjoyed her trip to Norway in 1984, where she visited Vega Island where her mother was born.

She is survived by her husband, R.B. “Pete” Remund; one daughter, Mary Ballintine and her husband Robert of Edina, MN; two granddaughters: Kathryn,  a student at Cambridge University in England and Carolyn, a student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI; one brother, James Erickson and his wife Darlene of Montevideo; one sister, Dorothy Weber and her husband Gregor of Philip, SD; one sister-in-law, Lucille Erickson of Montevideo, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Berniece Hawkins; one brother, Vernon Erickson and by an infant brother, George Erickson.
