Ethel M. Henstein died on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 86.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Gregory Gabriel officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family from 5-8 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo, and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Ethel M. Henstein was born March 15, 1918 in Orient, SD the daughter of John and Bertha (Giest) Marks. She attended rural school at Miranda, SD and worked as a care giver in Sioux Falls, SD before moving to Aberdeen, SD where she worked at a hotel. Ethel was united in marriage with Ben Nordquist in1939 in Redfield, SD. They moved to Montevideo in the early 1940's. She was baptized November 9, 1943 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Ben died in 1948. Ethel was united in marriage with Haakon Henstein July 12, 1952 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She worked for Northwestern Bell for 33 years and retired in 1981. Ethel also did day care after her retirement. Ethel enjoyed working with the Cub Scout program as a den mother for a number of years. Ethel was a member of Our Savior's Altar Guild, VFW Auxiliary, Degree of Honor, Sons of Norway, and Milwaukee Road Women’s Club. She also enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
She is survived by her son: Robert Henstein and his wife Debbie of Cottage Grove, MN; four sisters: Barbara Jahraus of Great Falls, MT, Arlene (Elmer) Burkhardt of McClusky, ND, Virginia Anderson of Willmar, MN, and Esther Lambert of Seattle, WA; one brother, Gordon (Marie) Marks of Concrete, WA; numerous nieces and nephews; and a step-daughter, Avis Bruestuen of Portland, OR.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands, Ben in1948 and Haakon in January 2004; one step-daughter: Phyllis Wilks; one sister, Minnie Nolte; and five brothers: Alvin, Leo, Edward, and Archie and William as infants.
