Ethel Johnson, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 94. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Ethel Aletta (Christenson) Johnson was born on April 18, 1917 in Poplar, Montana to Elmer and Agnes (Bye) Christenson. She was baptized on September 13, 1917 in Wolfe Point, MT and confirmed on August 23, 1931 at Jevnaker Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo, MN. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1937. On December 11, 1939 she was united in marriage to Darrell Johnson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo by Rev. John Mason, who was a cousin to Ethel's father. They made their home in Montevideo. She worked at the Carlson Doll Factory for over seventeen years. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was active in circle, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, where she held several offices and was a past-president. She enjoyed gardening, her apple trees, baking, cooking, canning and all local high school sports. She played the organ, liked camping, traveling, playing cards and bingo and loved family gatherings. Ethel has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past several years. She is survived by a daughter, Deanna (Bob) Grant of Milan, MN; four sons: Doran (Kathy) Johnson of Eagan, MN; Duane (Caren) Johnson, Dwight (Nancy) Johnson, and Dale (Janis) Johnson all of Montevideo, MN; a daughter-in-law, Dianna Johnson of Montevideo; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; a sister, Vivian (and James) Schwagerl of Simi Valley, CA; a sister-in-law, Beulah Rooney of Centralia, WA as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was welcomed to Heaven by her parents, her husband Darrell in 1959; a son, Dennis in 2006; a grandson, Cody Johnson; six sisters: Laura McDonald, Ginger Keller, Doris Regan, Erna Bergo, Violet Seiler and Betty Lou in infancy and by two brothers, Alfred and Henry Christenson.
