Ethel Opjorden, of Montevideo, died on Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 1:30P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Wayne D. Kopitzke officiating. Interment will be in the Kviteseid Lutheran Milan Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Ethel Luverna (Sederstrom) Opjorden was born on August 4, 1906 in Brookfield Township of Renville Co., MN to Alfred and Helen (Ringsby)Sederstrom. She was baptized in Brookfield Village and after moving with her parents to the Montevideo area, was confirmed at Saron Lutheran Church of rural Montevideo. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1925. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD for a year before entering the Nurse’s training at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse at Fairview and General Hospitals in Minneapolis and in Salem Oregon before returning to Minnesota and working at the Montevideo Hospital. On November 30, 1947 she was united in marriage to Olav Opjorden. Following his death she again worked for several years at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital before her retirement. She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 11 years.
She is survived by her children: Ronald Opjorden and his wife Joyce of Ventura, CA; Cheryl Barnes and her husband David of North Bend, OR; and Muriel Anderson and her husband Mark of Shoreview, MN; 6 grandchildren: Kimberly Anderson; Nathan Anderson and his wife Annie; Seth Torkko and his wife Angie; Krystel Torkko; Dawn Stone and her husband Jim and John Opjorden; a great granddaughter, Jasmine Anderson; 3 sisters-in-law, Archie, Evelyn and Vivian Sederstrom all of Montevideo; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Olav in 1966; a grandson, Eric Opjorden and by 3 brothers: Clifford, Harward and Gordon Sederstrom.
