Eugene Sis of Dawson died on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Ava’s House at Sanford Medical Center at the age of 72.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. James Catholic Church in Dawson with Father Paul Timmerman as celebrant. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Eugene Edwin Sis was born in Ortonville, MN on December 10, 1949 to Edwin and Dorothy (Adelmen) Sis. He attended school in Big Stone and later in Bellingham, MN where he graduated in 1968. He went to work for Henrich & Sons Ready Mix for more than 25 years. In 1977, he moved to Dawson to become the plant manager. He also enjoyed working as a bartender at the VFW. He was always a very hard worker and strong minded. On October 1st 1997, he was involved in a motor vehicle accident while hauling concrete. After this accident he became paralyzed from the waist down. For the next 24 years he continued to find new ways to keep himself busy.
Gene was a man of faith and was an active member of the St. James Parish. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, both in leagues and tournaments. He served on the Credit Union Board and also as President of the board. He was a proud member and founder of the Investment Club in Dawson. Gene enjoyed a good card game wherever he could find one, mainly the VFW/Hilltop. The Blackjacks were his favorite team and he attended many games through the year.
Gene is survived by his children: Cory (Stacie) Larson of Dawson, Tamara (Scott) Smith of Granite Falls, Joseph (Amy) Sis of Milbank, SD and Jordan (Preston) Stratmoen of Boyd; nine grandchildren: Cambree, Skylar, Natasha, Alexis, Ashlynn, Colton, Charlie, Quinn, and Shay; two great-grandchildren: Bentley and Sterling; three brothers: Frank (Debbie) of Anchorage, AK, James (Carolyn) of Bellevue, NE, and Roger (Linda) of Rosen, MN; two sisters: Mary (Everet) Anderson of Phoenix, AZ and Karen (Earl) Johnson of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Erlys Sis of Ortonville, MN; brother-in-law, Bob Ritter, Coon Rapids, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Virgil (Joyce); and a sister, Diane Ritter.
