She was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. Eunice started school in Rural District #26. The family moved to rural Dawson, where she was confirmed by Rev. Peter O. Wee at Riverside Lutheran Church. She began high school at Dawson and graduated from Madison High School in 1943. Being only 17 and "too young" to begin nurse's training, Eunice began working as a cleaning lady at Dawson Hospital and later completed practical nurse's training. Through the years, she worked as a scrub nurse in surgery. In later years, Eunice sold Singer sewing machines at Dayton's and was a service representative for the G.E. Mack Company, which sold sewing notions. On October 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Gordon R. Swenson. They began life together, farming in Providence Valley in rural Dawson. After the death of their second child, they moved their remaining family, Robert, Gretchen and Linda, to Billings, Montana, to get a fresh start on life. Eunice invested her lifetime in family, caring about people, and she loved and served in many "church homes." Eunice enjoyed family genealogy, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, handcrafts, gardening and canning. Eunice entered the Johnson Memorial Home on October 8, 2008, where she died on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 13 days. Eunice is survived by her 3 children: Robert (Shirley) Swenson of Bloomington, Gretchen Rolighed of Bloomington and Linda (Larry) Hildebrandt of Livingston, MT; 4 grandchildren: Stacey (Katie) Hildebrandt of Belgrade, MT, Dena Hildebrandt of Livingston, MT, Matthew Swenson of Bloomington and Sara Swenson of Bloomington; 2 great-granddaughters: Sara Hildebrandt and Paige Hildebrandt; 2 sisters: Judy Larson of Dawson and Gayle (Wayne) Lindquist of rural Madison; sister-in-law, Lorraine Connor of Madison; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Gordon, on October 7, 2001; two children: Vicki Geraldine Swenson and Gerald David Swenson; brother, Curtis Connor; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Verdie Heieren; brother-in-law, Russell Larson; and niece, Yvette Lindquist. When she wrote about her funeral, Eunice called it a "Celebration of Eternal Life for Eunice Swenson." Those who have given of themselves to others will live forever in each heart they have touched.
