Evelyn Jerve of Montevideo, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 89. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Jevnaker Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo, with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Evelyn Viola (Jolstad) Jerve was born on July 30, 1920 in Kerkhoven, MN to Jens and Helga (Rekstad) Jolstad. She was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, confirmed at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1939. Following her graduation she worked at Stamson's Cafe for six years. On October 20, 1945 she was united in marriage to Melvin Jerve at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They lived and farmed on the Jerve family farm for many years and she was an active member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church and its women's groups. Evelyn enjoyed being a member of the neighborhood Homemaker's Club, entering her baked, canned and crocheted items at the county fair, and going to the Minnesota State Fair, where she usually bought the latest kitchen gadget. She loved to travel, work on jig saw puzzles, crochet, sew and make beautiful afghans and doilies. Spending time at their lake cabin on Red Rock Lake with her family was very special. She was happiest when she was busy and able to spend time with her family and friends She is survived by children: Kenneth and (Cindy) Jerve of Montevideo and Debbra (and Jon) Backlund of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren: Kati (and Chad) Ulven of Fargo; Brian Jerve of Sartell, MN; Kim (and Ty) Bowen of West Fargo, ND; and Jill (and Preston) Forsberg of Fargo; six great grandchildren: Levi and Genevieve Ulven; Taylor, Carter and Julian Bowen and Mason Forsberg; two sisters: Pearl Fuller of Clara City, MN and Irene (and Leslie) Rud of Montevideo; two brothers: Donald (and Arlys) Jolstad of White Bear Lake Township, MN and Percy (and Carolyn) Jolstad of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin in 1992, a sister, Mildred Nesler and by two brothers-in-law, Clifford Fuller and Eddie Nesler.
