Evelyn Rolla

January 12, 1939 — November 7, 2014

Evelyn Rolla, child of God, and a longtime resident of the Burnsville area died Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska, Minnesota after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. She had touched the hearts of many as a daughter, sister, niece, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, neighbor and devoted friend.

A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 13901 Fairview Dr., Burnsville, Minnesota 55337. A reception will follow at the home of Brian and Karla Vien in Farmington.

Graveside Services will be held at 4pm on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Rock Valle Lutheran Church Cemetery, 6098 210th Avenue, Echo, Minnesota 56237. A reception will follow at the home of David and Stacy Hinz in Granite Falls.

Evelyn Janet Rolla was born in Yellow Medicine County to the late Obert and Anna (Rod) Rolla on January 12, 1939.  She was baptized at Rock Valle Lutheran Church near Echo, Minnesota. It was also there that she was confirmed in her faith. She attended District 8 country school and was a 1956 graduate of Granite Falls High School. She was one of eight children born to Obert and Anna Rolla, a farming family in Sioux Agency Township. She was a sensitive, intelligent, gracious and generous woman of faith and family.

She was of Norwegian heritage and loved the Minne-sota Vikings, Scandinavian foods and humor, and keeping up with the activities of a very busy extended family. She was a wonderful blessing to all who knew her.

Evie was a gentle spirit. She was also a career woman who had worked for the Granite Falls Tribune, various insurance companies in the Twin Cities area and was a volunteer at various charities and her church.  She was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, Minnesota. Recently, in her retirement, she had spent the winter months in Arizona with a fun-loving group of friends that she enjoyed many activities with. She had a full and happy life. It was God’s plan.

Evelyn is survived by her brother: Bennett (and Betty) Rolla of rural Granite Falls, her sister: Coretta (and Glen) Nielsen of Riverview, Florida; her sister: Lorraine (and Bob) Sloan of Lady Lake, Florida; and her sister: Diane (and Paul) Hinz of Granite Falls. She is also survived by her brother-in-law: Lloyd Sandstrom of Woodbury.

This beautiful lady was preceded in death by her parents, her sister: Rose Vien, her sister: Arlene Sandstrom, her brother: Orris Rolla; her uncles: Osten, Ole, Elmer, Stanley and Orlin Rod and Gilbert Rolla; and her aunt: Agnes Kvendru.

Aunt Evie was dedicated to her family. She leaves behind 22 nieces and nephews that were treated as though they were her very own.  They all will miss her deeply. She was a caring mother figure, caregiver, nurse, cheerleader, confidant and teacher for her numerous great nieces and nephews as well.

Memorials in Evelyn’s name may be made to your local American Cancer Society, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church “Mission Outpost,” or to Rock Valle Lutheran Church.
