Evelyn Tostenson, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, June 15, 2003 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 94.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at the First Congregational Church in Montevideo with Rev. Jean Boese officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:30 P.M.
Evelyn (Niemand) Tostenson was born April 9, 1909 at Greenville, IA the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Bruhn) Niemand. The family moved to Chippewa County, MN in 1914. Evelyn attended rural school in District 64 and 88 and graduated from West Central School in Morris, MN. She was employed as a typist/secretary at Bower Credit Bureau in Benson. Evelyn was united in marriage with Oliver Tostenson May 25, 1930 at her parents home. They farmed in Mandt Township until Oliver died in 1974. She continued to live on the farm and raised ducks and did gardening until moving into Montevideo in 1992. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Evelyn was a longtime member of First Congregational Women’s Fellowship, a member of Busy Bunch Homemakers, and Birthday Club.
She is survived by one son-in-law, Carl Ehrenberg of Appleton, MN; two daughters-in-law: Kay Tostenson of Perham, MN and Gladys Tostenson of Glenwood, MN; nine grandchildren: Lisa (Steve) Happe of Montevideo, MN, Lola Minke of Montevideo, MN, Scott (friend Jan) Tostenson of Danvers, MN, Linda (Ken) Styrbicky of Danvers, MN, Chuck (Susan) Tostenson of Perham, MN, Dick (Debbie) Tostenson of Osage, MN, Denise (Jessie) Gibbs of South Carolina, Suzanne Tostenson of Fergus Falls, MN, and Lee Tostenson of Snellman, MN; thirteen great-grandchildren;a great, great grandson; six step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Oliver, in 1974; one daughter, Myrtice Ehrenberg in 1999; two sons: Dale Tostenson in 2000 and Roger Tostenson in 2002; and one brother, Howard Niemand.
