Ferne Lulu (Smith) Mills

Ferne Mills, 90, of Montevideo died July 8, 1998 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 1998 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Robert Ford will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.  There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Saturday.

Ferne LuLu (Smith) Mills was born February 28, 1908 at Peoples Township, Boone County, Iowa the daughter of O.L. and Jenny (Emberling) Smith.  She was baptized May 9, 1926 and confirmed August 16, 1931 at Rosewood Methodist Church, rural Montevideo.  Ferne was united in marriage with Wesley A. Mills November 9, 1939 at Watertown, SD.  They made their home on a farm in Havelock Township, Chippewa County, MN until Wesley’s death when Ferne moved into Montevideo.  She was a member of the garden club, birthday club, and homemakers.  Ferne was active with the Rosewood Methodist Church Women and was currently a member of the United Methodist Church in Montevideo.  She had been a resident at Luther Haven Nursing Home the past two years.

She is survived by seven children: Carol Anderson and her husband Les of Shorewood, MN, Glennis Jorgenson and her husband Roger of Montevideo, MN, Susanne Lewis and her husband Harvey of Big Lake, MN, Gordon Mills and his wife Darla of Montevideo, MN, Marilyn Mateski of Prior Lake, MN, Darlene Pearson and her husband Jim of Maynard, MN and Sandra Flinn of Nelson, MN; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Nina Peterson of Montevideo, MN; and three sisters-in-law: Esther Mills and Florence Mills of Montevideo, MN and Frances Kirchoff of Humbolt, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Wesley on March 4, 1969; and one sister, Edna White.
