Florence Skotterud

November 21, 1914 — April 27, 2013

Florence Skotterud, of Dawson, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 98.

Funeral services was Friday, May 3, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastors Kendall Stelter and Erica Benson officiating; organist, Deb Lewis accompanied soloist, Deb Breberg singing “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art” and the hymns “Just As I Am”, “My Faith Looks Up To Thee”  and “I Love To Tell The Story.”  Casketbearers were Thomas Jensen, Harlen Jensen, Del Thielke, Deb Breberg, James Pehrson, Terry Overlander and honorary were Sons of Norway Nornen 1-41.  Interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation was at the church for one hour before the services on Friday.

Helen Clara Florence (Skotterud) Stucke was born November 21, 1914 at Milbank, SD, the daughter of Karl and Mamie (Jensen) Stucke.  She went by the name Florence.  She was baptized March 28, 1915 at Milbank Lutheran Church.  After her mother's death at the age of eight, she moved near Correll, MN where she was raised by her grandparents, Martin and Julianna Jensen.  She was confirmed Nov. 28,1928 at Louisburg Lutheran Church.  She attended grades 1-12 and graduated from Correll Consolidated School. Florence was united in marriage with Clifford Skotterud on June 1, 1940 at Louisburg Lutheran Church in Louisburg.  They made their home near Madison, where they farmed for a number of years and later moved to Dawson, where they built their own home in 1950.  Clifford died in 1964.  Florence continued to live in that house until September, 2011 when she became a resident of  Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, where she received loving care from staff and Dr. Lietzau.  Florence lived with and was a longtime cancer survivor.  She was employed at a variety of jobs including Finger Hut and Controlled Data, where she was proud to have made parts for the first space needle.  She was taught to sew by hand in school and later became an excellent seamstress, sewing bridal gowns, formals and suits.  She worked at tailoring for 17 years at Ekberg's, a fine lady's dress shop in Montevideo.  Florence  loved to travel and was a tour guide for both Rustad's and Riley's bus tours.  She was active in the Sons of Norway Nornen 41 of Madison and very proud of her Norwegian heritage.  She was a member of Minnesota Senior Federation and the Lac qui Parle Horticulture Society.  Church was a very important part of Florence's life. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson, teaching Sunday school for many years.  She so enjoyed the radio broadcast of Sunday services which she listened to quite often.

She is survived by a sister, Viola Brown of Los Angeles, CA; a sister-in-law, Irene Stucke of Butte, MT; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Clifford; and a brother, Fred “Kelly” Stucke.
