Florence Eunice (Olson) Vellekson

Florence Vellekson, of Montevideo, died on Friday September 20, 2002 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 84.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday September 23 2002 at 11:00 AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, MN with Rev. Wayne Anderson officiating.  Burial was in the Our Saviours Lutheran Cemetery  of Baxter .

Florence Eunice (Olson) Vellekson was born on July 3, 1918 in Chippewa County, MN to Oscar L. and Helga (Hanson) Olson.  She grew up in the Big Bend area and graduated from Milan High School in 1936. On June 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Vellekson at Big Bend Lutheran Church.  They farmed near Lac Qui Parle Village until 1977 when they moved into Montevideo.  She was currently residing at Copper Glen in Montevideo. She was currently a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and had been a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter, where she had been the Ladies Aid President as well as having been active in circle groups at both churches.  She had been a member of Farm Bureau and a homemakers club.  She enjoyed homemaking, including baking, cooking, sewing, quilting and crafts.

She is survived by three daughters: Karen Wickie and her husband Tom of Windom, MN, Carol Tilden and her husband Dale of New Brighton, MN, and Diane Mauch and her husband James of Hankinson, ND; eight grandchildren: Michael Wickie and his wife Jill, Susanne Wickie, Melissa (Tilden) Gassett and her husband Chris, Kelly (Tilden) Burdine and her husband Kyle, Jon Tilden, Melanie Mauch, Jannae Mauch, and Jenna Mauch; five great-grandchildren: Dane, Taylor and Hayden Gassett, Rachel Wickie and Brock Burdine; one brother, Dennis Olson and his wife Beatrice of Montevideo, MN; two sisters: Hazel Miller and her husband Vernon of Montevideo, MN and Arlene Streed and her husband Ernie of Milan, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, William in 1996; one daughter, Linda Vellekson; two sisters: Martha Blom and Rudell Jahn; and two brothers: Lauris and Verdie Olson
