Funeral service was at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, April 8, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastors Kendall Stelter and Lori Wold officiating; grandchildren: Cory Larson and Jordan Sis read the scriptures Psalm 103, Philippians 4:4-7 and John 6:45-50, 7:37-38; special music included Pam and Dean Lehmann singing "In the Garden" and a recording of "You Can Let Go Now Daddy"; organist, Deb Lewis accompanied the hymns: "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." All of Floyd's grandchildren were honorary casketbearers and active casketbearers were Harlan Haakenson, Arbie Lee, Floyd Lee, Keith Nelson, Roger Oman and Donovan Peterson with military honors by the Strand-Saboe VFW Post at Terrace Lawn Memory Garden Cemetery, rural Montevideo. Floyd Elton Haakenson was born on January 4, 1914, in Baxter Township, the son of Jens M. and Elise (Bakken) Haakenson. Floyd and Darlene Olson were married on September 12, 1948. Curtis, Steven and Wanda were born to this union. Floyd was honorably discharged from the US Army after serving his country during WW II. He was a farm employee for Ralph Hill, worked at the fertilizer plant for Rudy Prestholdt, and retired after many years working on the city crew for the City of Dawson. He lived at Parkview Apartments before moving to Prairie Meadows Assisted Living in Dawson. On March 12, 2009, he entered the Madison Lutheran Home where he died on Sunday, April 5, at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 1 day. In his younger years, he loved to dance. He also enjoyed listening to and watching the Twins, listening to Grace Lutheran Church services, listening to Dawson-Boyd sports, and going for rides in the country and ending at DeToy's Restaurant for chicken. He was a charter member of the Strand-Saboe VFW Post of Dawson. He is survived by his children: Wanda Sis of Dawson, Curtis (Sue) Haakenson of West Fargo, ND, and Steven (Kathy) Haakenson of Eagle Grove, IA; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; other family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters: Hilda Lee, Ella Nelson and Tilla Perkins; brothers: Henry, Alfred, Hjalmar, Kasper, Martin, Johan, Oscar, Jay, Eddie, and Melvin in infancy; and his grandson, Troy Haakenson on December 11, 2008.
