Floyd Norby, age 86, of Milan, MN, passed away Friday, August 12th, 2016 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Memorial services will be held on Monday August 15, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristine Isder officiating. Burial will be at Kviteseid Lutheran- Milan Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 5-7PM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with a prayer service and time for sharing at 7 PM. There is also visitation 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.
Floyd J. Norby was born in Swenoda Township in Swift County on April 26, 1930 to Louis (Julien) and Edith (Berven) Norby. He was baptized on June 12, 1930 at Big Bend Lutheran Church and confirmed on April 23, 1944 at Kviteseid Lutheran Church. He attended school in Milan and after graduation from high school he entered the Army. He served two years during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Milan and married Elvina Pederson on March 14th, 1953 at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. They had two children, Greg and Gwen. He spent his whole life farming around the Milan area. Floyd and Elvina moved from the farm to a house in Milan in 2011.
Family will remember Floyd for his love of farming and in early years the family raised sheep and milked cows. Floyd felt that farming was doing God’s work. He was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of D.A.V. , VFW and American Legion and also served as a township officer. Floyd enjoyed cooking. Following Elvina’s death in 2012 he became a great cook and enjoyed cooking and baking. His specialty was brownies and he would make them all the time. He also enjoyed trips to the casino with friends.
Floyd is survived by a son, Greg (and Sherry) Norby of Milan, MN and a daughter, Gwen (and Dave) Olson of Montevideo, MN; grandchildren: Jason (and Chanda) Norby of Milan, MN, Matt (and Jenna) Norby of Milan, MN, Lisa (and Bill) Holker of Clearwater, MN, Michael Haff (and friend Ashley Rodeberg) of Montevideo, MN, Jenay Olson -Carter (and Allie Carter-Olson) of Albany, VA, Tera Olson of Montevideo, Derek (and Heather) Olson of Brandon, MN and Devin Olson (and fiancé Ariel Stone) of Dawson, MN; great- grandchildren: Cale, Jessa, Ty, Josie, Collin, Aidan, Connor, Morgan, Jaelyn, Trayton and Elias; and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elvina in 2012; grandchildren: Daniel, Lindsey Jo, and Andrew Haff; and one brother Carroll Norby.
