Floyd Vern Schultz was born October 11, 1930, to Elsie (Nagel) Schultz and Vern S. Schultz at Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. As a youngster, he loved living in Smith’s Addition, and later on First Street Hill where he enjoyed a lot of adventures with childhood buddies and great neighbors. As a young teen, Floyd worked for the creamery and helped deliver Culligan water tanks to the surrounding area. He attended Montevideo High School, excelled in football, basketball, and track, and was a member of the rifle club. He served as class president from his sophomore to his senior year, graduating in 1948.

In the spring of 1951, Floyd met the love of his life, Jean Lenore Hammer. They enjoyed going to movies together and roller skating at Glady’s Ballroom. They were married on August 29, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Granite Falls. They moved to the farm north of Montevideo, where they lived and Floyd farmed while Jean taught school.

After retiring, they moved to town in 2010. Floyd took pleasure in the fact that his house in town was located within a block of his Grandfather Schultz’s land where he developed his interest in farming as a teenager. As a farmer for over 60 years, Floyd was an expert who took great pride in planting straight rows and having spotless fields. He also enjoyed maintaining his John Deere equipment. He was a faithful and active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, serving many years as an usher and an elder.

He is survived by Jean, his wife of nearly 65 years, his son, Robert of Montevideo, and Robert’s three children, Christine (Jason) Fisher of Annandale, Melissa (T.J.) Upchurch and their 3 day old daughter, Athena, of Eagle River, WI, and Daniel Schultz of Park Rapids. Floyd is also survived by his daughter, Karen (Loren) Hacker of Canby, and their two children, Emily (Eric) Sanders of Pine Island, and Evan (Sarah) Hacker, and their 19 month old son, Harrison, of Fargo, ND.  He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn (Ward) Gilbertson of East Grand Forks and his brother, Ron (Gail) Schultz of Montevideo.

Preceding him in death were his parents.
