Frances Mae (Torgeson) Thompson

Frances Thompson, of the Big Bend, MN area died on Monday, November 27, 2000 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 79.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, November 30, 2000 at 2:00 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Lois Knutson officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Frances Mae (Torgeson) Thompson was born on April 16, 1921 in Chippewa Co., MN, the youngest child and only daughter of Julius and Marie (Evanskaas) Torgeson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Watson, MN.  On October 2, 1943 she was united in marriage to Floyd Thompson at the Big Bend Parsonage.  They lived near Watson for a short time before moving to a farm in Mandt Township,  where they farmed until moving to Milan in 1981.  She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in and Montevideo since 1997. Frances was a member of Big Bend Lutheran Church was a Sunday School Teacher and 4H leader for 25 years.   She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, and the coffee pot was always on for entertaining friends.  She also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, gardening and hearing and telling a good joke.

She is survived by her five children: Marie Risa of Granite Falls, MN, Dean Thompson and his wife Vonnie of Montevideo, MN, Jan Ahrndt and her husband Sheldon of Benson, MN, Nancy Burgess and her husband Greg of Montevideo, MN, and Larry Thompson and his wife LaVonne of Foreston, MN; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd in 1999; one grandson, Michael Ahrndt; and her eight brothers: Joseph, Abner, Vernal, Wallace, Lyle, Floyd, Alden and Raymond Torgeson.
