Francis “Frank” Reed returned to his heavenly Father and joined his eternal family on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, AZ after a thankfully short battle with lung cancer at the age of 93.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Fr. Paul Timmerman will be the celebrant and burial is at Kviteseid Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for 1 hour before the service.
Francis “Frank” Edward Reed was born in Montevideo, MN on August 2, 1922 to Edward and Clara (Sauer) Reed. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He received a Purple Heart at the Battle of Bouganville. He returned to serve on the aircraft carrier, USS Lunga Point. Frank married Janet in 1948 and moved to Green Bay, WI to raise his family. Frank worked at Fort Howard Paper Company as a machine operator and night watchman. Following Janet’s death in 1983 Frank met Myrna Racette and they married in 1987 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Montevideo. In 1990 Frank and Myrna decided to be snow birds and moved to El Mirage for the winters. In 1996, they moved to a summer home on a golf course near Big Lake, MN and spent their time golfing on Carefree Country Club. Frank loved his bowling leagues and eventually golf, bridge and shuffleboard in his retirement years. He used that bowling experience to sharpen his shuffleboard skills. He also enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. He was blessed with many great friends everywhere he lived.
Frank is survived by his three daughters: Sandy Nielsen of Hillside, IL, Cherry Kalishek of Oshkosh, WI and Cindi Clark of Las Vegas, NV; two grandsons: Nick and Kurt; three great-granddaughters; Summer, Emma and Jaida; a brother, Vincent; sisters: Dorothy, Teresa and Pat; step-children: Marcia and Mike and their families; and loving companion Susan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Janet in 1983 and his second wife Myrna in 2006; infant daughter, Judy; son, Mike; brothers; Joseph, Ralph, Robert, Walter and James and sisters; Rita, Gertrude, Mildred and Mary.
