Frank Woodford, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 2:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family being present from 5:15 - 7 PM. There will be Masonic Rites at 5:30 PM and a prayer service at 7 PM, all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Francis William Woodford was born on December 8, 1920 in St. Paul, MN to Thomas and Minnie (Winans) Woodford. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from Johnson High School in 1938. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving for a total of eight years. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, and was very patriotic and was very proud of having served his country. Following his discharge from the Navy, he went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., working for them for 38 enjoyable years before retiring on December 31, 1983. He was united in marriage to Alicia Kashmark on October 10, 1953. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 45 years, having served on several boards and as president of the congregation. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a civil defense director, golf club member and president of the Telephone Pioneers. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying golf, deer hunting and fishing. He made many fishing trips into Canada and the Boundary Waters and in his earlier years enjoyed flying and owned his own airplane. He was a devoted husband and father, loyal to his company and proud to be an American. He was proud of his children, following all of their school activities and was especially proud of their adult achievements.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia; three children: Robert Woodford of Waconia, MN, Richard Woodford and his partner Pam Syverson and her daughter Tasha all of Denver, CO and Kathryn Ovshak and her husband Scott of Maple Grove, MN; a brother, Tom Woodford and his wife Marion of Maplewood, MN; two nephews: Steve Woodford and his wife Holly and Jim Woodford, as well as many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David in 1977.
